Clifton Swanson PAC Community Fund

Thank you Clifton Swanson PAC Community Fund!!!

In the spring of 2017 Friendship Through Dance (FTD) applied and gratefully received a grant of$2000 from the Foundation for the Performing Arts Center.

FTD’s mission is to provide donations, scholarships and partnerships to benefit dancers
and actors to further the growth of the arts and arts education in San Luis Obispo. In
applying for the grant we  helped offset costs to make it possible for a local dance
studio, Studio@ Ryan’s American Dance, to put on their annual showcase at the
Performing Arts Center and to keep the ticket prices down in order to offer our
community an opportunity to see great talent in our local area at a reasonable cost.
Receiving the grant enabled FTD to fulfill our mission statement and support dancers and
performers from our community by providing them with the opportunity and experience
of showcasing their talent on a big stage and to a bigger audience. An opportunity that
was greatly appreciated by the performers, the studio and the audience.
The grant funds enabled Studio @ Ryan’s American Dance to put on two showcases of
World of RAD at the PAC – one on the evening of June 23 rd and one during daytime on
June 25 th . The showcase definitely displayed the hard work and talents of these local
dancers and by being a production of many different styles of dance – such as jazz, ballet, tap, theater, lyrical, contemporary and hip hop – it also introduced our community
supporters to the great variety the art of dance has to offer.
A very special moment – a dream come true – from Studio @’s showcase, was when
Kailen Erickson, the studio’s very first high school senior graduate, got to perform her
solo and be celebrated on the Harmon Hall stage. It was the first time ever Kailen
performed a solo on such a big stage, and it was a great honor for Studio @ and FTD to
be able to use the grant to provide her and her family with this opportunity in her very
last performance for the studio.

Thank you for this great opportunity!
